"Tipping Moments of the Contemporary"

The video programme "Utopia Today - Turning Moments of the Contemporary" brings together positions by artists living in Austria who analyse the perception of everyday moments and put them under scrutiny on video. The ephemeral visual language of the medium targets the subconscious as a visual level, which touches on intermediate stages of human existence whilst being exaggerated through subtle interventions. Performative gestures play a central role in representing processes of perception as a temporal and spatial continuum and in questioning ubiquitous image formats by means of video. The different approaches point to the multiple possibilities of artists to break through the rituals of everyday life and develop methods to overturn these situations on video.
