Copa & Sordes: Mit Huhn… tableaux vivants et nature morte Videotableaux 1998-2023

Mit Huhn is a multimedia solo exhibition by the Basel-based artist duo Copa & Sordes at the Markthalle Basel presenting works that revolve around food and food production. The exhibition includes a selection of works covering 25 years of artistic creation and thus offering a retrospective of Copa and Sordes' work from their artistic beginnings to the present day. The exhibition showcases still lifes as video tableaux, echoing the tradition of baroque painting and contemporary food production and market scenes.

On 2nd November, Copa & Sordes will reenact a performance from their student days, designing an artistic scenography and reacting site-specifically to the Markthalle, the audience and individual market stalls. Transgressing boundaries between art and life form exciting key moments of the performance – a new work being created in situ.

Contemporary approaches to food will be explored on in relation to ecology, gender, technology, globalisation, migration as well as rural and urban communities.

The artist duo Copa & Sordes are interested in the overlaps between art and everyday culture. Eating in its ambivalence between physiological necessity, cultural identity and aesthetic, sensual experience is a recurring motif in their work: their video tableaux document work processes or market scenes in the tradition of baroque painting. They also create interactive performative events that include the individual experiences of the audience.

Eine multimediale Einzelausstellung in der Markthalle Basel präsentiert Werke des Basler Künstlerduos Copa & Sordes, die sich um Essen und Nahrungsproduktion drehent. Die Ausstellung umfasst eine Auswahl von Arbeiten aus 25 Jahren künstlerischen Schaffens und bietet damit gleichzeitig einen Werküberblick von den künstlerischen Anfängen von Copa und Sordes bis heute. Sie umfasst Stillleben als Videotableaux, welche in der Tradition barocker Malerei stehen und heutige Nahrungsmittelproduktion oder Marktszenen präsentieren.

Zudem gibt es ein Reenactment einer Performance aus der Studienzeit. Copa & Sordes entwerfen eine künstlerische Szenographie und reagieren ortsspezifisch auf die Markthalle, das Publikum und einzelne Marktstände. Interaktive Grenzüberschreitungen zwischen Kunst und Leben werden spannende Schlüsselmomente bilden. Ein neues Werk entsteht vor Ort.

Kommentiert wird der heutige Umgang mit Lebensmitteln in Bezug zu Ökologie, Gender, Technik, Globalisierung, Migration sowie Land- und Stadtgesellschaft.

Das Künstlerduo Copa & Sordes interessiert sich für die Überschneidungen

zwischen Kunst und Alltagskultur. Essen in seiner Ambivalenz zwischen physiologischer Notwendigkeit, kultureller Identität und ästhetisch, sinnlichem Erleben ist dabei ein wiederkehrendes Motiv: In Videotableaux, welche in der Tradition barocker Malerei Arbeitsprozesse oder Marktszenen dokumentieren. Als interaktive performative Events, welche die individuellen Erfahrungen des Publikums miteinbeziehen.
